Seeking Ideas for a Memory Box to Honor My Son

Hey everyone, I'm reaching out after a very difficult time. Two weeks ago, my wife and I lost our son, Oliver, who was born six weeks premature and sadly passed away shortly after birth. We've recently received his ashes and have placed them with some tokens to help us remember him. I'd really like to create a small chest or box for these memories, something we can open when we need a reminder of him. If anyone has pictures, plans, or ideas for building such a memory box, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much.

I really empathize with what you're going through. Before you start on the box, consider what you want to include in it. It might help to get some rough dimensions based on the items you have. You could look for an off-the-shelf box that fits or connect with a local woodworker for a custom build. The more details you have, the easier it will be to communicate what you want. Hoping this helps!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I understand how important it is to have a special place for your memories. If you're open to making the box yourself, there's a helpful YouTube video I found that walks through the process. Also, craft stores like Michael’s have unfinished wooden boxes you can customize with paint or stain to make it really personal. Wishing you comfort and peace during this time.

My heart goes out to you during this painful time. You might want to visit your local library; they often have books about woodworking and box making. One book that’s popular is 'Basic Box Making' by Doug Stowe. It’s worth checking out because it might inspire you and give you some ideas for beautiful designs.
