Seeking Recommendations for a Beginner Wood Carving Set

Hi everyone! I've dabbled in woodworking for a couple of months now, and I'm eager to dive into wood carving. With a budget of around $250, I'm hoping to find a reliable and reasonably priced carving set. My projects will vary in size from 3 inches to about 20 inches, and while I'm aware that I'll need to progress slowly, I want to start getting tools that will support detailed work later on. I'm also keeping an eye on the FAQ list for tips. Any suggestions?

Are you more focused on relief carving or 3D carving?

You should definitely consider the Flexcut beginner set, along with a strop and carving glove. It’s a solid starter kit for hand-held carving. I didn't catch what specific styles you want to pursue, but this set works great for various projects. Here's a link to check it out: [Flexcut Beginner Set](https://www.flexcut.com/home/product/kn600-beginner-palm-and-knife-set).

I'm thinking of starting with animals, like dogs and cats, and then move on to detailed leaves. Eventually, I’d love to carve torsos or silhouettes.

I highly recommend checking out Flexcut sets. They have some great options and I personally own a set that includes smaller gouges, larger ones, and a few knives. You can also purchase individual tools from their website based on your needs.
