Seeking Saw Recommendations for Home Projects

Hey everyone! I'm a new homeowner and I've been tackling a few small projects around the house. I often find myself wishing I had a saw but I'm not sure which one to get since I have no experience with them. I'm leaning towards a handheld circular saw, but I want to make sure it's versatile for different types of projects without breaking the bank. I've got a few Ryobi tools already, but just one battery and charger. What's the most universal type of saw I should consider? I've heard about chop saws and other options, but I'm not really sure what fits my needs best. I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

It’d help to know what kind of projects you’re planning to do, but generally speaking, a circular saw is a great choice for most tasks. It can handle rough cuts on lumber and sheet goods. If you’re doing more precise work or need to make angled cuts, a miter saw is a solid option.

Right now, I’m mostly interested in patching things up around the yard. For instance, I want to fix the fence and maybe work on our shed, which is in pretty bad shape. A circular saw sounds like it could be the right fit for cutting wood to size!

You can't go wrong with a circular saw! They're usually powerful and, if you get a corded one, you won't run into battery issues. Just make sure to pick a brand you like because it’ll make it easier for future tool purchases—like a drill or an impact driver—if they share the same battery system. Ryobi is a fun brand to stick with since you're already in their ecosystem.

Thanks for the tip! I noticed there are different sizes of circular saws, some really compact too. Is that something that could work for me, or will I need a larger one?
