Seeking Tips for a Shower Remodel with JetCoat System

Hey everyone! I'm new here and need some advice on a shower remodel I'm helping my mom with. We're planning to replace her current fiberglass tub/shower setup (which measures 60x32x96) by completely tearing it out and installing a shower only. After shopping around, we've decided on the Craft+Main JetCoat Reflections shower wall system (60x34x96).

For the shower pan, we chose the white Flexstone 60x32, as it's a straight-to-floor model that doesn't require a mortar bed, plus it fits nicely against the walls. We're trying to maximize the space.

Here's my game plan: I want to use Goboard for the walls (directly attached to the studs), cement board for the floor (over plywood), and seal everything with Aquadefense. I think I won't need a membrane on the walls since Goboard is waterproof with the right installation. I'm also considering adding Goboard to the ceiling for extra safety and then putting a matte white Plas-Tex poly wall panel over that.

This is my first bathroom remodel, but I've tackled other small projects like installing ceiling fans and doing minor plumbing work at my mom's house, so I have some experience. I've researched a lot about shower panel installs and watched various DIY videos.

Before we get started, does anyone see any major flaws in this plan? I'm aiming for a watertight setup, especially beneath the pan and walls, since I know that's crucial for durability. We'll also be reinforcing the walls for a future folding teak shower seat and a grab bar, and I plan to replace the plumbing for the shower fixtures while I'm at it.

We're starting with a shower curtain but want to make it easy to add a glass door later if she wants one. Any tips would be super helpful! Thanks!

Hey there! Your plan sounds pretty solid, especially considering it’s your first remodel. Just make sure to double-check the Goboard installation instructions as well since those are crucial for waterproofing. If you can, it might be a good idea to have a second pair of hands when you’re putting up those panels; they can be a bit tricky to maneuver. Don't forget to leave some space for the plumbing adjustments too—good call on replacing those while you’re at it! You got this!

I think you're on the right track, but I’d suggest thinking a bit more about the moisture barrier. Even though Goboard is waterproof, it can’t hurt to have an extra layer on the walls if you're concerned. Maybe a vapor barrier behind it? Also, make sure the Flexstone pan is level—those edges can be sneaky if they're not. Sounds like a great project, good luck!
