Setting Up a Home Gym on Wooden Floors: Safe or Not?

Hey folks! I just moved into a charming older house built in 1930, and I'm looking to set up a small home gym. Originally, I thought about the basement for the gym, but the ceiling height is pretty low at just 185 cm (73 inches). So now I'm considering placing a weight machine in my bedroom, but I'm worried about whether my wooden floors can support all the equipment. The machine weighs around 80 kg, plus I have a bench and another 150 kg in weight plates. Do you think it would be safe to put all this weight in my bedroom, or is that asking for trouble? What do you suggest—adding something like a big board or rubber mats underneath? Any advice would be appreciated!

I’d say a few hundred kilograms shouldn’t be a problem for your floor joists, but I’d be careful. The structural beams you see in your ceiling support the flooring above, so as long as they’re properly placed, you should be fine. Just out of curiosity, what did you do about the living room ceiling? I think that area has a lot to do with how things are supported! Ultimately, you might want to take some clearer photos to assess the situation better before proceeding!

Yeah, I’ll try to grab some better shots to show how it all looks.

Looks like you've got some major beams supporting everything there! Those should help with the weight.
