I'm in the process of getting baseboards and trim installed in my home, and I'm a bit confused about the order of installation. When it comes to the trim around doors, should it be installed down to the floor first, with the baseboards fitting against it? My installer seems to be doing the baseboards first, then adding the door trim afterwards. Is this the right approach?

Yeah, that order seems a bit off. Usually, installers put in the door trim first, then baseboards fit right around them. It could be that he’s trying to reuse scrap pieces or something, but if he’s not leaving room for adjustments, it could lead to mismatched cuts later. Just make sure the final product looks good—gaps aren’t ideal!
It’s typically best to install the door trim first and then run the baseboard up to it. That way, everything lines up neatly and you avoid any gaps. Some installers might handle it differently, focusing on the corners first, but the end goal is a clean finish. If your installer knows the sizes of the trim, it should work out fine. Just keep an eye on those gaps!

I agree, it does seem strange! I just hope it all comes together without looking messy.
