Hey everyone! I'm a first-time homeowner and we've been trying to get some exterior wood replaced on our 40-year-old house. It's been tough finding someone who will do these smaller jobs, so we reached out to a siding and windows company. They're going to replace some of the wood, add siding to our chimney to prevent rot, and wrap our fascia and soffit in aluminum.
I noticed they plan to remove and reattach the downspouts, but when I asked about the gutters, the contractor said they wouldn't remove them unless they were replacing them. He mentioned it's tricky to put them back on correctly, especially since these gutters are only five years old.
From what I've read, it seems like the best practice is to take off the gutters before wrapping the fascia, so that everything can be covered properly. Do you guys think I should rethink going with this contractor? Should I suggest they remove the gutters, or is there a better way to handle this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

In general, removing the gutters is the best option if it can be done without causing damage. If they have quick screw-style hangers, you might be okay, as you can remove those screws and slide the fascia behind the gutter. However, if they are nailed in, they might prefer to leave them as is. It’s a risk versus reward situation, so just have a chat with them about how they'll ensure the fascia is fully covered. Good luck!
It's usually best to remove the gutters before wrapping the fascia to ensure a complete cover. But I understand why they might hesitate if the gutters were installed with spikes. Those can be tough to take off without damaging them. If they're concerned about reinstalling them properly, it might be a sign they want to avoid any issues down the road. Just make sure you check how they plan to do it. If your friend's company is willing to handle the removal and reattachment, that might give you more peace of mind!
Thanks for clarifying that! I’ll definitely weigh my options between the two companies before making a choice.

Thanks for this! I’ll ask how they'll cover the fascia around the gutters. Appreciate the advice!
