I'm about to close on a new place next month and I've been reading up on attic insulation. I want to know if the insulation currently in there is sufficient or if I need to add more. I've attached a picture for reference: https://imgur.com/a/khU6xFB

From what I can see, the insulation looks decent—especially if you're in a cold climate and it's around 18" thick. You could definitely add more insulation where it seems a bit thin, just make sure to check for things like baffles. Proper ventilation is key—is it vented properly?
Hey! You probably shouldn't just pile more insulation on top of what's already there. It's a good idea to take it out first and check for any air leaks. You can do this by turning on lights in the rooms below and looking for any light shining through. After that, if everything looks good, then you can blow in new insulation. That's the safer route!
