Should I be worried about a crack in my new garage slab?

I'm currently having a new garage built, and I just spotted a crack in the exterior part of the slab. It's about 18 inches long, and while I told my contractor about it, he seemed pretty unconcerned. Since I live in Maine, where the weather can get pretty wet and freezing, I'm wondering if this crack is something I should worry about. What steps can I take to protect the slab and what's the best way to monitor it? Any advice would be appreciated!

Hairline cracks are totally normal! In fact, it’s rare to find a slab that doesn’t have them. Just keep an eye on it once or twice a year and you should be good to go.

Wassup crack, how you doing?

Cracking in concrete is pretty common and usually not a big deal. Unless you notice the crack starting to separate or settle more than a quarter inch, you should be fine. Just keep an eye on it!
