I noticed some nails in my cedar siding are a bit loose. While most are flush, some are sticking out, and a few have holes that seem too big for them. I'm concerned that rain could seep in through these gaps and cause rot. Is this a common issue, and what actions should I take to fix it?

If you’re seeing loose nails like that, it’s definitely something you should fix! Pull out the loose nails, fill the holes with caulk, and then put in a new nail close to the old spot. Just make sure to pre-drill a tiny hole first—about 1/16" smaller than your new nail. If the siding is older, it might crack if you don't!
Having some nails loosen over time is pretty normal, especially with wood siding. It’s important to address it though, since rain could get in. Just use some paintable silicone caulk or something outdoor-friendly to seal those up, and consider getting new nails in there too. Your house isn’t falling apart, but it’s good to be proactive!

Good tip! It’s all about taking care of the cedar and preventing further issues.
