Hey everyone, I've been living in my home for 6 years now, and while it seemed fine at first, I've started to notice a concerning issue. A while back, I spotted a slight mark near the AC vent, and over time, it has become more prominent. I took a peek in the attic and noticed that two supports are pulling away from their anchor points. I'm just a regular homeowner without much construction knowledge, so I'm really unsure about the seriousness of this situation. The house is 25 years old, and the affected area is a span of about 17 feet in my kitchen. I know it needs fixing, but I'm not sure who to contact for help. Am I overreacting, or is this a genuine concern?

From what I see in the pictures, it looks like you might be dealing with some settling issues, but those later pictures show signs that could be more serious. My advice? Definitely get in touch with a structural engineer or possibly an architect. They'll know what to look for and can help determine if this is a simple drywall issue or something more concerning.

Do you think an architect could handle repairs too? I'm trying to reach an engineer, but it wouldn't hurt to have options.
