Should I Bring My Green Tomatoes Inside or Wait?

I've got three big tomato plants loaded with large green tomatoes, but they're refusing to turn red. With my daughter being born in May, I got a late start on the garden. I'm considering whether I should just bring them all inside to ripen on a windowsill or wait it out to see if I can still get some vine-ripened tomatoes. Is there still hope for them to ripen on the plant, or is it time to cut my losses?

You can always pick them and let them ripen indoors on a sunny windowsill. I've also heard that putting a banana nearby can help speed up the ripening process!

I'm in the same boat! My tomatoes are outside, and as soon as I see any turning color, I plan to bring those in. If nothing changes by the week's end, I’ll gather them up. I'm in London, so I'm a bit anxious about the weather.

I'd recommend leaving your tomatoes on the plant until the first frost is forecasted. They might still ripen if given more time, and nothing beats the taste of vine-ripened tomatoes!

Totally agree! They taste so much better when they're allowed to ripen naturally on the vine.
