Should I Cap a Gas Line After Removing My Dryer?

I just moved into a house that has a gas line setup for a dryer, but I only have an electric dryer. I'm planning to get rid of the old gas dryer that came with the house. There's a shut-off valve at the end of the gas line. Is it safe to just shut off the valve, or should I also cap the line to prevent any potential leaks?

You could probably get away with just using the shut-off valve, but I’d recommend taking a picture of it. That way, someone might spot any issues and help out better. Also, make sure you've got an outlet for your electric dryer before sealing everything up!

It's safer to cap or plug it, especially if you don’t plan on using the gas in the future. Just cap it as close to the gas line as you can. You really don’t want an unused gas line just hanging around in your house!

It’s a good idea to cap the gas line even after shutting off the valve. This way, if there are any leaks, they can be contained. I had the same situation, and capping it at the shut-off valve worked well for me. Better to be safe!

Absolutely, the gas authority capped my old stove line too. It just makes sense!
