Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice on replacing a large picture window in my 900 square-foot home. I'm considering a bay window to make the space feel roomier, but a builder with 35 years of experience suggests opting for three double hung windows instead. They mentioned that double hung windows are more modern and generally have better resale value, plus they often convert bay windows to double hung rather than the other way around. The installation cost for double hung might also be lower. We have a roof with plenty of overhang, so that shouldn't pose a problem for a bay window. What do you all think? Any insights or preferences on whether to go with double hung or a bay window? Thanks!

We went with two double hung windows and a larger picture window in the center instead of a bay window. It worked out well for us since we could customize the look without the added complications of a bay. Just a thought!
Have you considered a compromise? If there's enough space, you might be able to have a large picture window flanked by two double hung windows on the sides. This gives a nice modern look and adds flexibility for ventilation.

I asked them about that option; they said it's about a 9-foot width. But why not just go for a larger picture window along with two smaller double hungs? They seemed to really recommend sticking with double hungs.
