I'm looking to replace my front door and the salesman at the door store is pushing fiberglass. He claims it's super durable, especially given the heat we get here in central Texas. I'm leaning towards aesthetics though; I love the look of a nice wood door. But, is it worth it just for looks? Do people with beautiful wood doors have to replace them often due to weather damage?

If your door gets a lot of sun, fiberglass is definitely your best bet. It'll last longer and requires less maintenance. But if you love wood and are ready to give it a little TLC over the years, then the beauty of a wood door could be worth it. Just know you'll have to replace it sooner than fiberglass!
Consider how much sun your door gets! If it faces south or west, I'd think twice about wood—it can weather badly. I've got a wood door and it's been a struggle in the Texas heat. If you go with wood, be sure to treat it with a good UV protectant every few years. That said, fiberglass is super durable and better at handling the heat and sun in the long run.
We've had a fiberglass door for about 15 years and it's held up great! If maintenance is a concern for you, fiberglass is the way to go. It'll last longer with less upkeep compared to wood. But if you're after that classic wood look and don’t mind doing some maintenance, then go for it!
