I'm considering picking up a brad nailer from a pawn shop, and they have both M12 and M18 models available. I already have batteries for both types and noticed that their prices are pretty similar. I'm just wondering if there's any clear advantage to going with one over the other. I recently scored a nice saw for $90 there, so I'm hoping to make a good choice on the nailer too!

It really boils down to what you need it for. Are you looking for something lightweight for smaller jobs? If you don't think you’ll need to shoot nails longer than 1.5", then the M12 could work. But if you want durability and bigger projects in mind, the M18 packs a punch and tends to last longer.
The M12 is limited to driving 1-1/2" nails, which might be a dealbreaker depending on what you plan to use it for. If you think you'd need longer nails, then it might be better to go with the M18 instead.
I faced the same choice. I have the M18 16 gauge finish nailer, and honestly, I think the M18 is the better buy for versatility. I’d expect that you'd use the M18 for tougher jobs, like your house trim or any bigger woodworking projects. For lighter work, the M12 might suffice, but for just one tool, I'd recommend the M18—it offers better holding power in general.
