Should I Choose DeWalt PowerStack or XR Batteries?

I've had a few DeWalt XR batteries fail on me lately—specifically two 18v ones: a 5ah and a 2ah that came with my multitool. It seems like they might've been left too long post-discharge, which I suspect contributed! I'm considering buying a few more batteries because I now have over ten tools to keep powered up. I'm curious if anyone has experience with the new PowerStack batteries compared to the XR ones. Also, if anyone knows about good battery deals in the UK, that would be super helpful!

I'd really recommend going for the PowerPacks at this point. They offer better capacity and pricing compared to the XR batteries, especially with the newer tabless design. In the US, there are some great deals on the 8Ah PowerPacks almost daily, and they just seem like a smarter investment in the long run. I’ve got both types, and I really think the technology shift might make the XR batteries obsolete soon enough!

Totally agree on that! I'm looking into getting some FlexVolt stuff as well, so it's good to know this tech could change the game.

That's good to know! I've been torn between those and XR batteries. I'm starting to lean toward PowerPacks now, especially given the new tech.

About the XR labeling: I’ve noticed that in the US, they’ve stopped using the XR title on older batteries and now only label new ones as PowerPack or PowerStack. If you find this confusing, you’re not alone. In the UK, I've seen the old XR batteries remain available, but it might cause some price changes soon if they clear inventory for newer ones!

Yeah, I’m seeing a lot of mixed information too. I hope those price drops happen; it'd be nice to score some deals on older batteries.

This link has one of the best deals I've found for the 5ah XR batteries in the UK. It's priced around £160, which is pretty typical here. For comparison, those kits usually go for about $150-160 in the US, so it looks like you're getting a fair price!

That’s about what I expected! There are usually good deals during holiday sales, so keep an eye on those.
