I'm looking into getting a dust collector for my small shop, and I'm debating whether I really need HEPA filtration. I've settled on a canister filter as minimum since I won't be using bags. My concern is about the airflow and CFM calculations, which are quite confusing. Is HEPA filtration worth the investment in woodworking, or is it just a marketing gimmick? Also, I'm curious if using a smaller filter would create more resistance and if that's a big issue. Anyone have any insights?

It's definitely a good idea to filter out smaller particles, as they can be quite harmful in the long run. Even if you think you're not generating a lot of fine dust, it adds up. SO yes, go for the filter that captures the smallest particles!
