I'm planning to build a fence around my house this weekend and I'm currently using some M12 tools. I'm considering getting the M12 skillsaw and hacksaw, but I noticed there's a good deal on a 7 piece M18 toolkit for $499 at Home Depot. Given that I often do work around my home and help out my neighbors, I'm wondering which option would be better for my fence project. Should I stick with the M12 tools I already have or invest in the M18 ones? I'd really appreciate your input!

I actually love my M12 circular saw! It's lightweight, and I think it works pretty well for smaller cuts. If you go with the M12, though, make sure to get a good 5 1/2" blade for better performance. You can still get through 2x4s and fence pickets without any issues!
For the skillsaw, definitely go with the M18! I've tried both M12 and M18, and while the hacksaw is fine in M12, the skillsaw will drain those M12 batteries super fast. If you’re serious about this fence, the M18 will be the better investment.
I've found that the M12 saw isn't very powerful—I'd suggest skipping it for this project. You'll likely be better off with the M18 tools, especially for a fence build where you'll want something that can handle tougher cuts.
Honestly, it all comes down to what's more affordable for you. If you find a killer deal on the M18 kit, it might be worth it. Just grab what you need as you go!

Thanks for the suggestion! That makes a lot of sense regarding the battery life.
