I'm trying to decide between installing prehung doors or just swapping out the door slabs in my home. I recently got a quote from Lowe's for replacing four old interior doors with solid core prehung doors for a total of $2000, including materials and labor. On the other hand, a private contractor I found suggested only replacing the door slabs (keeping the existing frames), and surprisingly, the total cost for that is also $2000 after Lowe's discount. The current frames are quite old but still in decent shape overall. Given this situation, would you recommend going with the complete prehung door option from Lowe's, or sticking to the contractor's idea of just replacing the slabs? What would you choose?

If the cost is the same, I'd say definitely go for the prehung doors! You'll get nicer, updated stops and they’ll likely fit better. Are you taking on the installation yourself, or is it included in the quote?
I strongly recommend the prehung option. Retrofitting slabs into old frames can turn into a real headache (trust me, I’ve been there!). You'll appreciate the smoother installation and better overall look with new prehung doors.
