I'm currently using a Dewalt DCD771 that's starting to show its age—with some ball bearings popping out and gear skipping. It's served me well, but I'm considering an upgrade. I work in electrical service and often deal with concrete, and I already have an SDS hammer drill (the DCH133), so I'm wondering if the DCD806 is worth the extra $20 for its hammer function, which I might not use frequently. Should I stick with the more compact DCD801 instead? Appreciate any insights!

Honestly, unless you’re dealing with stucco walls, I wouldn’t bother with a compact hammer drill. They’re not super effective for larger concrete jobs. I love my DCD801, especially since I have my SDS for tougher drilling.
Forget the 801 and 806, check out their earlier models like the 800 and 805 instead. There's a significant difference in the anti-kickback mechanism—they've made it much too sensitive, which can cause a loss of power.
If you're looking at the 806, keep in mind it has the hammer drill feature. But just by itself, you might find it more than you need if you're already set up with an SDS. It really depends on how often you think you'll use it.
I think going for the lighter, compact option is better unless you really need the extra power. I used to buy heavier tools, but they just made my work harder in tight spaces and left my arms sore by the end of the day.

Wait, are you saying those older models actually perform better? That's interesting!
