Should I Coat My Garage Apron Too?

I'm planning on getting a polyaspartic coating for my garage floor and I'm debating whether to include the apron, which is a 10-inch concrete strip just outside the door (most of it is visible when the door is closed). I've received six quotes, and interestingly, half the contractors recommended coating the apron while the others either didn't mention it or advised against it. I'm torn because it would create a clean look and fix some pitting I have, but I'm worried about how well it will hold up against sunlight, rain, and road salt. Has anyone here coated their garage apron? What were your experiences?

I decided to cut mine at the door. It just looks weird if you see part of the epoxy sticking out when the door is closed. Plus, I didn't want it to look messy.

Totally agree! But then again, I rarely stand outside with the door closed, so maybe it's not a huge deal.

We went ahead and coated ours all the way out, but honestly, a few years later a lot of it has worn off from the weather. Just keep that in mind if you decide to go for it.

Yikes, that’s my worry too! It feels like some companies push for it just to get you back for repairs later. Did you use polyaspartic or epoxy?

I opted not to do the apron because I think it wears down faster and you’ll notice it more from outside. Plus, there’s usually a lip at the end of the garage that acts as a natural cutoff. Just a heads up, the polyaspartic can smell a lot at first, so keep the door open for a while after the job.

Good to know! Just to clarify, I don't have a lip; my garage floor is a solid piece leading out. They'd have to create a keyway to stop at the door.
