Hey everyone! I recently planted garlic and put mulch on top, covering it with some wire fencing as suggested. When it starts to sprout in the spring, I'm planning to take off the mulch. My question is, should I put the wire back to help keep any pests or rodents out?

I’m no expert either, but when I planted peppers last year, squirrels dug them all up! Garlic seems like it might need some protection too—definitely consider putting something over it to keep those pesky critters at bay!
Honestly, I haven't heard of pests bothering garlic much at all! Most animals seem to avoid that strong smell. Of course, pest problems can vary by area, so if you're in a place with lots of wildlife, you might want to be cautious. What’s your location?
I grew a ton of garlic last year without any protective covering. We have deer and all sorts of animals that usually munch on garden plants, but they left the garlic completely alone! So you might be fine without the extra wire.

I’m in Montana, where we have deer, elk, raccoons, and plenty of rabbits and mice. That’s why I’m a bit worried!
