Should I Cover or Remove My Old Ceramic Tile?

I have some old, damaged ceramic tile in my house that really doesn't fit our style. I'm dreading the thought of removing it because it sounds like a massive hassle. Are there any viable options other than ripping it out?

Keep in mind that whether you remove the tile or cover it can impact your floor and door trim, along with thresholds and even if doors need adjustments. It might be worth thinking through these aspects before deciding.

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend covering damaged tile. If the tile is cracked or scratched, starting from a stable base is key, but I get that removing it can be a nightmare. It's best to weigh the hassle against the final look you're after.
