Should I DIY My 1,400 sq ft Ranch Roof or Hire a Roofer?

I received a quote of $13,000 to have my 1,400 sq ft ranch roof reshingle, which includes one dormer. Recently, I took on the challenge of re-roofing my garage, which took me quite a while to complete. Now I'm considering whether I should tackle my own roof or leave it to the professionals and supervise their work. My current roof, a 3-tab style, is over 15 years old but still holds strong despite not leaking. I'm also paying an extra $100 a month for insurance because this roof hasn't been replaced yet. I have a photo of my house and garage for reference: [https://imgur.com/a/wS5FYKQ](https://imgur.com/a/wS5FYKQ). Would it be worth doing it myself to ensure accuracy, or should I trust the roofers?

If you’ve only done one roof before, don’t underestimate how tricky it can be! It might be wiser to hire a good roofer and just supervise their work. You might think you're confident, but it's a big job with lots of potential for mistakes. Budgeting for this can be rough, but quality work is worth it in the long run.

Honestly, if your roof's in decent shape, you might want to just lay a new layer over the old shingles. If you get a helper, this could be a quick job. But think about how valuable your time is! In the end, if you can afford an installer without breaking the bank, it might save you a lot of hassle!

Roofing is tough, especially in summer! If you decide to DIY, make sure you’re hydrating and have the right safety gear! Seriously, a good safety harness is a must. Plus, investing in quality tools can make your life a lot easier, and you can sell them later. Also, don’t work alone—consider hiring some local help from Home Depot to speed things up.
