Hey everyone! I'm a new homeowner and just got 4 raised garden beds (4' x 8' and 17" deep). I was recommended by a local public garden to get soil from a landscape company, and they quoted me $260 for 4 cubic yards of compost. I initially wanted to try the Hugelkultur method, which involves layering wood logs and organic waste at the bottom, but I'm now considering just filling the beds with the compost instead. Another tip I received was to use whatever soil the place I'm buying my plants from suggests. Which method do you think would lead to better vegetable yields in the long run?

Honestly, spending $260 on compost isn't too bad if you’re looking to save time. If dragging logs around isn't your thing, go ahead with the compost! As long as you care for the soil and keep up with nutrition, it should be fine, even if the organic material breaks down over time.

Right? I thought $260 was a fair deal too, especially since I have some firewood and rotten logs already. Thanks for your advice!
