Should I Fix a Leaking Gasket Before Installing My Washing Machine?

Hey everyone! I recently moved into a new apartment and I'm about to install my new washing machine and dryer. However, I noticed that the gasket where the washing machine connects is leaking a bit. It leaks even when the machine is turned off. I'm planning to leave it on permanently, so I'm wondering if I really need to fix this leak now. Can anyone clarify if my thinking is off and why it might be crucial to address the gasket issue before I set up the washer? Thanks for any advice you can provide!

Definitely fix that leak! If you're talking about the gasket in the water hose, those are cheap and super easy to swap out. Just pull the old one out, clean the area, and pop in the new one. If it's the hose itself that's leaking, replacing it with a new one is also a good bet. Make sure it fits right, but don’t stress - they're not too pricey! If it's the fixture where the hose connects to the plumbing, you might need to call a plumber to check it out. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks for the tips! I just checked and the fixture doesn't have any gaskets, so I'm feeling a bit better about that.

It's wise to fix that leak before you install your washer. Even though it might seem minor now, leaking can lead to bigger issues down the line, like water damage. Since you own the apartment, it's worth investing a bit of time to ensure everything is properly sealed. If you're unsure about the fixtures, consider getting a professional to take a look to avoid headaches later on!
