Hey everyone! I'm tackling a big project – rebuilding my deck. I ran into a bit of a hassle with the lumber yard; they quoted me standard lengths but delivered everything in the longest possible sizes, so I have a ton of crosscuts to make in 2x material. I currently own a circular saw, but I'm considering investing in a worm drive for more power. On the other hand, I don't have a track saw, so I'm curious if that would also be a good choice for making all these cuts. Would a Kreg track saw (or similar) hold up against a worm drive for this kind of work? Am I going to wear out a track saw with all the crosscuts I need to make, or should I just stick to getting the worm drive instead? Any advice is appreciated!

Honestly, you don’t really need a track saw for cutting 2x lumber; a circular saw with a speed square will do just fine. Track saws are more suited for sheet goods and long rips. If you’re not doing this regularly, a worm drive is probably overkill for your needs and won't save you much time over just using a decent circular saw.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too! I have some experience with a circular saw, and I’ve done plenty of crosscuts before without any issues.
