I'm looking to make the most of my empty cattle panel fence and I'm torn between planting grapes or hardy kiwi. I really enjoy having a diverse selection of fruits—it goes beyond just your standard choices like grapes. I'm passionate about food preservation and I love raisins! But I've also heard that kiwi berries can yield a lot. I'm situated in the Pacific Northwest (Zone 8b) with clay soil. What do you think would be the best option?

It really depends on how much space you have! I had to skip out on hardy kiwis after seeing how large they can grow. They would be a great option if you eventually get a bigger yard, but for now, a more manageable option like grapes might be better for your 75ft fence.
From my experience with both, I'd say grapes are a lot easier and quicker to grow. They can start producing fruit in just two years, and by year three, you might find yourself with a ton of grapes! On the other hand, hardy kiwis can be tricky and often take up to eight years to bear fruit. So, if you're looking for something that gives quicker results, grapes might be your best bet!
