I'm trying to figure out whether I should hire a general contractor or go with Home Depot for some home renovations. I'm looking to remodel my kitchen, install new flooring throughout the lower level and stairs, put up a fence, and replace the sliding glass door and back door with screen doors. I understand that getting estimates is essential, but I would love to hear about any experiences or recommendations, especially from people in the South Jersey area! What do you think is more affordable and efficient?

Honestly, I’ve never heard anyone say they were happy with a big box store subcontractor. It’s usually a mixed bag, and you might end up regretting it!
If you’re considering Home Depot, just keep in mind they mainly subcontract work to the lowest bidder. I’ve seen good and bad experiences—like here in MI, some contractors are pretty reliable while others can give you a real headache. It might be best to get local recommendations for contractors, or check out reviews for the services in your area. It can vary a lot!
Thanks for the heads up! I guess doing some local research is the way to go then.

Yeah, it's true! It seems like you really need to be careful when choosing who to go with. It's a hit or miss sometimes.
