I'm looking to hire someone to finish my partially finished basement, and my cousin recommended a contractor to me. She praised his work but mentioned that his communication can be hit or miss due to potential language barriers. I'm trying to gauge whether his communication style would be a red flag when hiring him. Here's a link to some images of his work: https://imgur.com/a/ivCcGMi. Would it be a smart move to hire him, or should I look for someone else?

I’d recommend getting quotes from a few other contractors as well. This way, you can compare not just the prices, but also the communication styles. It’s really important to feel comfortable with whoever you hire.
Personally, I wouldn't hire someone with poor communication skills, even if their work looks good. It can lead to misunderstandings and frustration during the project. A good contractor should treat you with respect and keep you in the loop.
It sounds like there might be some confusion on both ends. Just make sure you clearly communicate what you want from him. Set expectations upfront to avoid misunderstandings later on.

I get that, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about good contractors being hard to find. Maybe I should give him a chance?
