I have a 1000 square foot home that has old knob and tube wiring in the attic, and there's currently no insulation up there. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to lay down fiberglass insulation as long as I avoid touching the knobs, tubes, and wires. Those areas account for about twenty percent of the attic floor space. Is it worth insulating the remaining eighty percent with fiberglass? My owner isn't planning to replace the knob and tube wiring but is okay with paying for the insulation, and I'm going to handle the installation myself.

Honestly, I wouldn’t risk it. That knob and tube wiring can be a fire hazard, and it’s best to address the electrical issues before adding insulation. You might end up creating a dangerous situation. Better safe than sorry, you know?
It's important to consider if the knob and tube is still live or if it’s been retired. If it’s dead, then adding insulation might be okay, but I’d still lean towards getting the electrical work up to code first. You really don't want to be in a situation where you’re dealing with potential fire hazards.
Right! Just check before doing anything. Better safe than sorry.

Exactly! Safety should come first. If that wiring is still live, it’s a huge risk.
