Hey everyone! I'm in the process of replacing my old wooden picket fence with a new vinyl one, and I'm also looking to switch out my grass for fake grass. However, I can only tackle one project this year. I'm leaning towards putting up the fence first, but I'm wondering if that's a good plan. Will there be any problems with getting the fake grass laid down after the fence is up?

Fence first, for sure. Those fence installers can be pretty rough on your lawn with their machinery, so it’s best to save the grass work until after the fence is installed.
I'd also say fence first. Just a heads up, though, why are you choosing fake grass? It seems like such a drastic step unless water is a huge issue for you. Maybe consider something like rocks if you're in a dry area, but if you have kids and want to use the space, I get it!
Semi-arid coastal. Our front yard is pretty much our only yard, and I have a child. I'd like to still hang out in the area but not water it.
Definitely go with the fence first! If you're replacing any posts, it could really mess with your landscaping, so it's smarter to install the fence before adding the grass. Once the fence is in, it’ll be easier to put down the fake grass without creating a huge mess. Just remember to include a 48" gate for any equipment you might need for the turf installation.
