Should I Keep This Non-Native Flower Growing in My Yard?

Hey all! I'm trying to turn my yard in Kansas into a haven for native plants. Recently, I found some pretty yellow flowers in my backyard and decided to let them grow instead of mowing them down. After a bit of research, I discovered they are stringy stonecrop, which isn't native to my area but is common in the southeast and mid-US. I'm torn about whether to keep it or remove it. What do you think?

If it's your only flowering plant right now, I'd say leave it! It might be helping some local insects while you work on adding more natives to your garden.

Honestly, I'd stick with it for a bit. With climate changes, plants are shifting their ranges, and some non-natives can be part of that natural adaptation. If it’s not invasive, I wouldn’t stress too much about it for now.

Yeah, exactly! Plus, who knows, it might just help some pollinators until you're ready to plant more natives.

It doesn’t seem like stringy stonecrop is listed as invasive, so if you like it, you might as well keep it for now. Just keep in mind that it won't provide as much benefit to local wildlife compared to native plants.
