Should I Open Up My Kitchen to the Dining Room Before Baby Arrives?

I'm expecting a baby in July and need to decide whether to knock through to the dining room or keep the kitchen and dining area separate. The current kitchen is a bit cramped, which is tough since I love cooking and want to involve my child in it as they grow. But, I really don't want my sofa smelling like food, and I like the idea of hiding the kitchen mess behind closed doors for now. Any thoughts on what I should do?

You’ve got some time before your little one starts getting into cooking! For the first couple of years, they'll mostly be in a high chair or bouncer watching you cook. It's probably best to stick with what you have for now and see how things change once the baby arrives. Plus, those early years are all about simple cooking anyway—gone are the days of elaborate meals!

Yep, they don’t need much space early on. Just enjoy your cooking time—maybe just add some storage solutions for now!

Honestly, it might be too late to take on such a big project right now. Babies can arrive earlier than expected, and juggling an unfinished project while managing a newborn can be really stressful. I’d suggest waiting until after the baby is here before making any big changes. You can always plan to remodel the kitchen when things settle down a bit.

Totally agree! Focus on preparing for the baby instead of worrying about renovations right now. There's plenty of time to rethink the space later.
