Should I Plant Bachelor Buttons in My School Garden?

I recently planted some perennials at my kid's school, choosing blue flowers to match the school colors of blue and grey. I started growing bachelor button seeds under my grow lights, but I came across some information suggesting that they might spread too much. Is this really a concern? I generally enjoy having some volunteers in my garden, but I want to be reasonable about it. For context, I decided against planting a hummingbird vine and morning glories due to similar concerns. Are bachelor buttons more problematic than other flowers like marigolds or cockscomb/celosia?

I had bachelor buttons in my garden in Madison, WI (zone 5), and they never took over. They were manageable and didn’t spread wildly.

I'm in zone 5 as well, and I find that they only come back sparingly. A few pop up here and there, but it's nothing that I can't control with a little weeding.

I've had bachelor buttons in my yard for a couple of years, and they really haven't spread at all. They just kind of hang out. So at least for me, they weren’t a nuisance or anything.

So they aren't spreading too much? I'm fine with them at home since anything in the lawn just gets mowed, but I want to avoid any issues at the school.

What zone are you in?
