I'm trying to keep fungus gnats at bay while potting up some plants. I fill a half-gallon jug with water, mix in mosquito dunks, and pour that mixture into my new potting soil before letting it sit overnight in a bucket with drainage holes. Is this method safe and effective, or could it cause issues down the line?

It seems like a solid idea to me! I didn’t see any downsides when I used it. Just keep in mind that inactive ingredients might need some nitrogen to break down, so consider adding a bit more nitrogen fertilizer.
I think using mosquito dunks is a smart plan! They work to combat larvae effectively, but remember to reapply every 5-7 days since they can become inactive quickly. Also, cutting back on watering will help reduce gnat problems.
Rehydrating seed starter mix with boiling water is a common approach to deter fungus gnats, but I worry it might kill beneficial bacteria in the soil. Since you're potting up, boiling water could be risky! I'd stick with your dunk method for a gentler solution.

Exactly! I was concerned about boiling water affecting the microbial health too.
