I've always cut back my Clematis every spring, but I've learned I might be doing it wrong this time. I've got a bunch of dead-looking vines that are green on the inside. Should I prune those dead vines, or should I just cut everything back and start fresh?

Go ahead and prune it! I always cut back the dead stuff, and it grows back beautifully from the ground. Don't worry too much about it, just give it a good chop and it should bounce back.
