I've been wondering whether it's better to buy soil by volume (like cubic feet or liters) instead of by weight (pounds or kilograms). I've heard that volume might give a more accurate measure. However, I'm a bit concerned that some sellers could take advantage of this by offering low-density soil with lots of air gaps.
What do you think? Any suggestions or experiences to share?

When it comes to buying soil, I really think you should go by volume. If you're getting it from a landscaping company, and especially if it's been wet, buying by weight can mean you're paying extra for all that water. Plus, if you’re worried about the soil being too fluffy, you might ask for a sample to check it out yourself. Just keep in mind that the nutrient content is what’s truly important. Before buying in bulk, I always grab a soil test to see what I'm really getting!
Definitely go with volume, whether for gardening or construction! The same soil can weigh a ton when wet, but when it's dry, it can be super light. Sure, volume can vary based on how compressible the soil is, but it's usually more dependable than weight. Trust me, you don’t want to be caught paying for a ton of water!
