Should I Recaulk or Leave My Kitchen Counter Seam as Is?

Hey everyone! I hope this isn't a silly question, but my partner and I bought a house a couple of years ago, and we recently noticed that the caulk (or is it grout?) where our countertop meets the wall behind the sink is starting to degrade. We're on a tight budget and can't afford a kitchen renovation right now. Should we go ahead and recaulk that seam to prevent moisture from getting trapped, or is it better to leave it as it is and risk more water damage? I'd appreciate any suggestions or advice you have!

You've got the right idea to want to address that! I suggest cleaning out the old caulk as much as possible, then applying a fresh bead and smoothing it out with a wet finger. It’s a straightforward fix and can help protect against moisture.

You could definitely recaulk, but if you're looking for a smoother finish, consider removing the old grout and replacing it instead. Check out some YouTube videos for DIY tips! Just make sure to caulk in the corners and use grout in larger areas for the best look.

Exactly! Just be mindful of where you use caulk versus grout to keep everything looking sharp.
