Should I Refurbish My Hardwood Floors with a Baby on the Way?

I need some advice before taking on what could turn into a real challenge. I just found out we're having a new family member arriving in a week, and my partner mentioned that they'd love to see hardwood floors in the hallway instead of the carpet that was there. I removed the carpet and discovered hardwood flooring that's been painted over in layers – green, white, and red. The house was built in 1900, so I'm also concerned about potential lead paint. I was planning to have my partner and our pup stay at an Airbnb with a pool for the weekend while I tackle this project.

From my research, I've figured out that I should follow a sanding process starting with 24 grit, then 36, 60, 100, and finish with the grain. I aim to do it without chemicals, vacuuming and wiping the floor between grits, and using an edger as well. After sanding, I have the right oil-based stain ready, and I plan to apply three layers of poly with 220 grit sanding in between. So, is it realistic to finish this project in a weekend before the baby arrives, or should I wait? Any honest opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, with the baby coming so soon, I wouldn’t start that floor refinishing project, especially since it’s your first time. There are just way too many risks involved if something goes wrong. Better to wait until things settle down a bit and you can really focus on it without the stress of the baby rearing its head any day now.
