Should I Remove Carpet and Flooring Myself for My First Flip?

I recently bought a single-family home that I just couldn't resist. I'm planning to have new carpet and luxury vinyl plank (LVP) professionally installed, but I'm considering saving some money by tearing out the existing carpet and flooring myself. A colleague has offered to haul everything away for $500. Should I tackle this job myself or let the flooring professionals handle it if the savings are minimal? I'm feeling a bit anxious since this is my first property flip.

I've pulled up carpet before, and you're right; it can be a bit tedious, especially getting all the staples out. But if you're looking to save cash, I'd definitely do it again. Just be aware that it can take longer than you might expect. If you're handy, go for it!

What was your time commitment like? I just moved out of a house that desperately needs new flooring, and I'm weighing whether to do it myself.

Removing carpet yourself isn't too hard! Just grab a utility knife, cut the carpet into strips of about 2-3 feet, and roll it up. Tape it up as you go. A shovel or floor scraper is handy for tackling those pesky tack strips. You'll get it out without a hitch!
