Hey everyone! I'm considering removing the top cabinets above my fridge to accommodate a new appliance. The space currently measures 67 1/2 inches high, but the new fridge is 69 inches tall. It looks like the original owners didn't tile the kitchen, which might have made it easier. The alternatives seem to be either taking the cabinets down or retrofitting the existing ones, which sounds like a hassle. Has anyone here gone through this? Do you regret taking the cabinets out? Appreciate any insights!

As a general contractor, I often deal with situations like this. You have a couple of good options: First, you could completely remove the upper cabinets and use the crown molding from them to wrap around the sides. You’d likely need some drywall repair and touch-ups after. Alternatively, if you’re feeling handy, you can remove the crown, take down the cabinets, cut a bit off the top, and reinstall them at the required height. Just keep in mind, it might be best to hire someone for that more complicated option!
I’d suggest heading to an appliance store to measure a few fridges first. Sometimes the listed height includes hinges that can stick up a bit, but they might not interfere with your cabinets. It’s worth double-checking!

Yeah, I thought that too, but Samsung generally gives accurate dimensions. The height they list usually doesn’t include the hinges.
