Should I Rent a Lift or Buy My Own Climbing Gear for Roof Work?

I'm looking to do some maintenance on the steel roof of my two-story house, which includes washing and coating it. Initially, I thought using ladders with roof hooks would be sufficient. However, after my first attempt, I realized that it's probably not the safest option, considering how much work I need to do. Now I'm torn between renting a lift or buying climbing gear.

**About Renting a Lift:**
I'm worried because one side of my house is really close to the neighbor's fence, and while the rental shop has a variety of lift options, I want to make sure I choose one that can safely reach all parts of my roof without any issues.

**Buying Climbing Gear:**
I have some experience with top rope climbing, so I understand the importance of safety equipment. I'm curious about what gear would be best for this task, since I'll be using it mainly for support while I work rather than for traditional climbing. I'm thinking of a safety harness, rope grab, descender, and plenty of rope. Any advice?

There are safety harnesses specifically designed for roofing work that allow for easy movement across the roof. You might want to check out a local roofing supply store to find ones that meet safety standards, especially since this is important for compliance with regulations. They’ll definitely have what you need for your job!

That sounds like a good idea to check there!

Just a heads up, even if you use a lift, you still need to wear a safety harness. It might seem more convenient, but it’s crucial for your safety. Plus, operating a lift can be a blast if you’re comfortable with it! Just remember that even with a lift, you might still need a basic safety setup. Better safe than sorry!

Yeah, I understand now; I wasn't implying I'd skip that part!
