I'm dealing with a duct that runs down from the attic between two bedrooms into the den on the main floor. The duct seems to be either loose or is expanding and contracting, which is causing a ticking noise in the walls when the HVAC turns on or off. I'm torn between trying to repair the duct, which might involve tearing out a lot of drywall, or just removing it entirely and installing a mini split to cool the room instead. What do you think is the better option?

Honestly, if you're thinking more about repairs, fixing the duct could save you some cash. It's usually less expensive to patch it up rather than go for a full mini split installation. Just make sure to check if you can access it without too much drywall work.
Good point! I’ll look into a quote and see what my options are. Thanks for the advice!
Definitely get a quote for a mini split; they can be super efficient. You might find that it's not as expensive as you think once you factor in the costs of repairing the duct and the potential ongoing noise issues. Just a thought!

Yeah, but if it's a huge hassle and you're not experienced, maybe getting a mini split is worth it. At least you won't have to worry about the noise anymore!
