My 16-year-old garage door opener is struggling to receive signals from the remotes, and now it won't respond at all, meaning I can only operate it using the wired button on the wall. I've been considering the Genie Aladdin Connect smart opener since it's relatively inexpensive at around $65. It seems like a quick fix since I could connect it to the existing wiring with ease. However, I'm wondering if it's wiser to invest in a completely new opener instead, especially since my current one is quite old and may be nearing the end of its life—potentially costing about $200. What do you all think?

Definitely go for the new opener, especially one with smart features like battery backup and app control. It’s an upgrade worth making! You'll love the extra convenience.
Before you make a decision, have you checked whether you’ve used LED bulbs recently? I once replaced a motherboard thinking it was faulty, only to discover that the LED bulb was causing the remote signal issues. Just a thought!
Wait, how does an LED bulb mess with anything in a garage door opener? That's new to me!
If the $200 is manageable for you, I’d recommend just going with a new opener. You're already spending a significant amount on that Genie smart opener, and your current system has probably used up most of its lifespan. A new opener would be a safer bet.
I really enjoyed getting a smart opener! It's super convenient to use with home automation systems. Just chatting with my assistant makes life easier!
Is it easy to set up with a home assistant? I’m also using a container for tracking UPS. If it’s a seamless process to automate, I’d be all in!

Interesting! I've never heard that an LED could interfere with a garage door opener. But it’s good advice to check everything before replacing major parts.
