I'm saving up to redo my kitchen and have ended up adding some freestanding cabinets for extra storage. I'm quite enjoying the flexibility of being able to move them around, which makes me wonder if built-ins are even necessary. The only concern I have is how it might affect my property's value when I eventually sell. What other factors should I consider when deciding between built-in and movable cabinets?

My neighbors went for a similar setup with rolling tiered basket drawers and a few open shelves. They only have a small section of built-ins and it's worked out fine for them. They loved the flexible layout so much, they're reluctant to go back! Really depends on your kitchen's layout.
Aside from the sink and dishwasher needing fixed spots, I can't think of many downsides to freestanding options. It's actually pretty cool that you can move them around for cleaning. Just remember, most kitchens are pretty cramped, so the rearrangement potential might be limited.
It’s hard to judge the durability of your portable cabinets without seeing them. If they’re basic fiberboard from places like Amazon or Ikea, I’d be cautious about how they hold up over time, especially when you move them around. Plus, you might find you have limited countertop space with all the moving parts.
