I recently purchased the DCD1007 from Amazon for $230, which I thought was a fantastic deal. It came with an 8amp XR battery and a bag, but I'm mostly using it for DIY home projects, and while it's not too heavy for me, I've been considering something lighter. I don't do much masonry drilling, so having the DCD1007 feels like overkill. Now I see that the DCD806 is available in a bundle with a 4amp battery, a 1.7 powerstack battery, and a DCF860 impact driver for $370. Initially, I wasn't interested in an impact driver, but I hear they're super useful. I'm torn between returning the DCD1007 for this newer, lighter kit or keeping what I have. That extra $140 would be for lighter batteries and a smaller drill, but I'd get the impact driver too. Plus, I have to consider my need for the anti kickback feature due to past wrist injuries, which limits my options to Dewalt tools only. So, is this upgrade worth it, or should I just hold onto my DCD1007? Also, keep in mind that I could just buy the DCF860B separately and use the battery that came with my DCD1007, which would cost about the same as the bundle. What should I do?

Honestly, I'd recommend sticking with the DCD1007. It sounds like it's working well for your DIY needs, and you'll probably benefit from the versatility it offers over time. Plus, there are lighter options out there if you need something different down the line. The DCD806 and DCF860 bundle is nice, but not necessary unless you’re really going to use that impact driver.
I’d think about returning the 1007 and looking for a deal on the 806/860 bundle. I know it’s more expensive, but I think you’d find the impact driver handy once you give it a shot. Also, keep an eye out for sales; the prices can sometimes drop significantly!
I get that, but make sure that anti kickback feature is something you really need. If it is, it might just justify spending that extra cash.
Keep the 1007 for now. The other models are still new and tend to be overpriced. The little things, like the anti kickback, might seem unnecessary now but can really make a difference later when you’re using the drill often.

Yeah, I hear you. The 1007 is a beast, and for just home stuff, it might be all you need. It’s better to not overspend on something you won't use much.
