I'm planning to build two 10x10 tent platforms on my property. They'll be installed on a leveled foundation using tuff blocks, and I'll be using pressure treated lumber along with joist hangers, joist tape, and proper hardware to make sure everything is sturdy. The platforms will sit side by side and be bolted together to create a 10x20 deck, allowing me to easily separate and move them if needed. Now, I'm trying to decide between building the platforms with either 2x8 joists spaced 16 inches apart or opting for 2x6 joists spaced 12 inches apart to save some money. Are there any compelling reasons to avoid using the 2x6?

You might want to check out planning tools like the one on strongtie.com; they can help you map everything out and give you insights on your joist choices. They'll lay out all the parts and cuts you need as well.
It could be worth doing some calculations on the weight if you're thinking about moving them around. Just to give you an idea, a 10x10 platform with 2x6s and around 20 planks can weigh between 600-700 lbs depending on the setup. Just keep that in mind!
I've got a low profile deck that's about 15 years old, and the original 2x6 joists held up surprisingly well. I just replaced the decking and they were in great shape! Spaced them every 12 inches and added some joist tape. It feels really solid, so I think going with 2x6s could work for you too!

That sounds pretty hefty! I guess the weight really matters if I need to move them. Thanks for the heads up!
