Hey everyone,
I found myself in a tough spot after a contractor messed up my cedar soffits and fascia by overspraying them with blue paint. Now I'm stuck deciding between either painting them (which would take a few coats of white paint) or replacing them altogether. I've heard that I could just wrap the cedar with aluminum instead of going through the hassle of painting or replacing, but I'm worried about moisture getting trapped between the aluminum and wood, which could lead to rotting. It feels like just covering it up might make the problem worse.
Also, one contractor mentioned that if I replace the wood with aluminum, there wouldn't be a way to attach the aluminum—this sounded weird to me since aluminum can be installed directly. What do you all think? Should I hire someone to wrap over the cedar or go for a full replacement?

If you wrap the cedar correctly and add proper ventilation, it shouldn't trap moisture. Just remember to make sure the installation is done right. It might be a good idea to get multiple opinions to see how they plan to handle moisture prevention.
Wrapping is definitely a viable solution! I've seen it done successfully on old houses without issues. But honestly, I'd focus on getting some accountability from the contractor who caused this mess first. Check if they have liability insurance; you might be entitled to compensation!

Yeah, they have insurance but dealing with them is a nightmare. I'm tempted to get things fixed myself just to avoid the mess getting worse. If I go for wrapping, what should I specifically ask the contractors about their installation process?
